Jerome J. Renner
Funeral services for Jerome John Renner, 69, of Hutchinson and formerly of Stewart were held on Wednesday, July 26, from Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Kevin Oster officiating.
Mr. Renner died on Sunday, July 23, 2000, at the Glencoe Area Health Center.
Organist was Loretta Bernhagen, and special music by the church choir included "Here I Am Lord," "The Lord Will Be My Shepherd." His granddaughter Shannon Augenson sang "Amazing Grace." The congregational hymn was "Lift High the Cross."
Pallbearers were Tim Hahn, Richard Quandt, Paul Renner, David Krippner, Douglas Knick, Lloyd Roepke, Michael Knoll and Lyle Roepke. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Thor, Norbert Doerr, Roman Quandt, Marvin Stark and Joe Krippner. Military honors were provided by Degree-Fleisch American Legion Post 125. Interment was in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery in Fernando.
Mr. Renner was born on Dec. 21, 1930, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to John W. and Elsie E. (Eitel) Renner. He was baptized on Jan. 4, 1931, and confirmed on April 14, 1946, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Mr. Renner grew up south of Fernando in McLeod County and attended District 70 country school.
Mr. Renner served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. Upon his discharge in 1954, he returned to the Fernando area.
On June 28, 1958, Mr. Renner was united in marriage to Viola Rettmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. The couple lived and farmed west of Fernando.
He was a member of the Round Grove Township Board, serving as constable. He served on the St. Matthew's church council while he was a member there.
In 1982, the Renners moved to Hutchinson, but he continued to spend his days farming.
Mr. Renner was employed part-time by Farmers Co-op Elevator and also worked road maintenance for Round Grove Township, which he enjoyed.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hutchinson for the past three years. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, gardening, going to the lake cabin, visiting with friends at Joe's Station, where he was referred to as "Governor" and farming each day. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Renner of Hutchinson; children, Mark (Cyd) Renner of Edgley, N.D., Julie (Mike) Schweiss of Fairfax, Judy (Bill) Grimm of Hector and Keith (Kathy) Renner of Stewart; grandchildren, Lisa (Brandon) Berwald, Shannon Augenson, Chase Augenson, Chad Kalenberg, Brook Schweiss, Sky Schweiss, Autumn Schweiss, Lark Schweiss, Sondra Grimm, Tiffany Grimm, Belinda Grimm, Jennifer Bulau, Jessica Bulau, Amanda Renner, Amber Renner and Alexandra Renner; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Daniel Berwald; mother, Elsie Renner of Green Isle; brothers, Delmar (Muriel) Renner of Clearwater, Fla., John (Mavis) Renner Jr. of Winthrop, and Gary (Mary) Renner of Winthrop; sister, Carol (Doug) Block of Brownton; sisters-in-law, Sherry Renner of Cambria, Mildred Knick and friend Roger Dreier of Glencoe, Hazel (Richard) Chyener of Winthrop, Edna (Gregg) Knoll of Elk River, Geraldine (Fred) Trebelhorn of Winthrop, and Jeannette (Bill) Trantham of Hamburg; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Renner was preceded in death by his father; brother, Thomas Renner; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Gladys Rettmann; and nephew, Jeff Renner.
The Hughes Funeral Home of Stewart handled arrangements.
