Henry Ristow obituary, 10/20/99


Funeral services for Henry Ristow, age 83, of Watertown
and formerly of Lester Prairie, were Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999. Henry died
Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Elim Nursing Home, Watertown.
Henry was born the son of Max and Augusta (Boescher) Ristow
on Dec. 11, 1915, in Lester Prairie. He attended country school south of
Lester Prairie.
On Jan. 30, 1942, Henry enlisted in the U. S. Army. He
was stationed in Puerto Rico before his honorable discharge on Sept. 22,
1945. While in Puerto Rico, Henry went to vocational school to learn how
to fix televisions.
He was united in marriage to Iris M. Morales in Puerto
Rico June 6, 1944. The couple lived in New York, where Henry worked at the
Warrick Hotel. Later, they moved back to the Lester Prairie and Mayer area.
Henry worked in the heating and cooling business. He was
a member of the Lester Prairie Fire Department, the Lester Prairie Legion,
Waconia VFW, Waconia Legion, and the Mayer Senior Citizens.
He served as an elder and vice president at the Evangelical
United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. He volunteered to build the community
pool in Lester Prairie and always helped anyone who needed help.
Henry enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing, playing cards,
and attending the annual sheephead tournament. He especially enjoyed spending
time with his family.
He was a resident at the Elim Nursing Home, Watertown,
for the past six years; and it was there that he entered his eternal rest
at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and nine days.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Augusta
Ristow; brothers, Ernst and Paul Ristow; and sisters, Ruth Ristow, Elsie
Zabel and Lillian Hoof.
He is survived by his wife Iris of Mayer; daughters, Betty
Gamble (husband, Steve) of Blaine, Nancy Menzel (husband, Donald) of Mayer,
and Susan Ristow of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Robert Ristow (wife, Isabelle),
Mickal Erickson (wife, Andrea), Shawn Farber, Eva Gravelle, Theresa Erickson,
Lea Menzel (husband, John), Amy Werth (husband, Lance), and Jonathan Holloman;
and great-grandchildren: Abigail, Jezebel and Tamara Ristow; Mikala and
Jillian Erickson; Thomas, Mariah, Brandy and Timothy Gravelle; and Izaak
and Briannah Erickson.
Henry is further survived by brothers and sisters: August
Ristow (wife, Luella) of Lester Prairie, Edwin Ristow of Lester Prairie,
Otto Ristow of Mayer, Sophie Hasse (husband, Wilfred) of Mayer, Esther Smith
of Webster, Wis.; and Dorothy Wuetherich (husband, Frederick) of Lester
Prairie; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical United
Church of Christ in Lester Prairie with the Rev. John Hogue officiating.
Organist was Marie Eischens. The congregational hymns were “Amazing
Grace,” “What A Friend We Have in Jesus,” “America The
Beautiful,” and “Rock of Ages.”
Serving as casket bearers were Robert Ristow, Mickal Erickson,
Shawn Farber, Jonathan Holloman, Donald Menzel, and Todd Java. Interment
was in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.
Visitation and evening military services were Friday at
the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
