Viola "Vi" Roban
Viola "Vi" Roban, age 83 of Waverly, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999.
Viola was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Buffalo, the daughter of Peter M. and Celina Cardinal Peterson.
On March 15, 1936, Vi was joined in holy marriage to Clarence H. "Curly" Birkholz. Following their marriage, Curly and Vi farmed south of Howard Lake and later, near Waverly in Marysville Township. Curly preceded his wife in death on June 12, 1947.
Vi married Paul Roban on May 27, 1949 and moved to Waverly. Vi and Paul enjoyed traveling and looking out from home over Waverly Lake. Paul preceded his wife in death on Jan. 4, 1988.
Vi was a former long-time employee of Tonka Toys in Mound.
She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, both the Waverly and Montrose senior citizens, and the Charles Claessen American Legion Post #305 Auxiliary.
Vi enjoyed playing cards and gardening. She also loved sewing, crocheting, embroidering and canning.
She is survived by daughters: Beverly (Irvin) Hausladen of Waverly, Sandy Secora of Howard Lake, Judy Plummer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandchildren: Rick (Patty) Hausladen, Randy (Cindy) Hausladen and Robert Hausladen; Karen Secora, Nancy Krippner and Julie (Scott) Maeyaert; Penny (John) Masur and Jonathan Plummer; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Jason and Danny Hausladen; Matthew, Kelly and Shannon Hausladen; Thomas and Travis Krippner; and Rebecca and Kristin Masur.
Vi is further survived by a brother, Lloyd (Florence) Peterson of Annandale; a sister, Marcella "Sally" Peterson of Arcadia, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Florence Peterson, Esther Edwards and Lorraine Peterson; many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husbands, Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Peter M. and Celina Peterson; brothers, Ervin, Aldean, Harold and Larry Peterson; and a sister, Elrine Peterson.
Funeral services for Viola "Vi" Roban were Friday, May 28, 1999, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo with the Rev. John P. Folkerds officiating. Diane Johnson was the organist and Julie Maeyaert was the pianist for the funeral service.
Interment followed at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Rick Hausladen, Randy Hausladen, Robert Hausladen, Gary Peterson, David Peterson and Stanley Peterson served as casket bearers.
Friends called at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, Thursday, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.
