Ida Quast Roufs
Ida Quast Roufs, age 87 of Winsted, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Ida was born in Victor Township, Wright County, on March 8, 1912. the daughter of Karl and Emma Schmalz Erdman.
She was joined in holy marriage to Andrew Quast on May 27, 1931 at the parsonage of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. God blessed their marriage with three daughters. Andrew preceded his wife in death on April 9, 1964.
On August 30, 1969, Ida married George Roufs at St. Michael Catholic Church in Gaylord. The Rev. Cecil Roufs performed the wedding ceremony. George preceded his wife in death on Feb. 20, 1978.
Ida was employed for many years at Tonka Toys in Mound and later operated the Worn-A-Bit Shop in downtown Winsted.
She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and belonged to Holy Family Council #204 and to the St. Anne's Society.
Ida was a long-time volunteer at the gift shop of St. Mary's Hospital and at St. Mary's Care Center.
She also loved gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her daughters: Marilyn Helmbrecht of Winsted, Lorraine Peterson of Waverly, and Joyce Jagodzinski of Howard Lake; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by step-children: Marietta Littfin of Chanhassan; Iona (Martin) Francis of San Leandro, Calif.; Sister Elizabeth Roufs,OSB of St. Cloud; Frank (Teresa) Roufs of Winsted; and Mae (Norb) Stifter of Howard Lake; brothers: Willard Erdman of Corcoran, Leo (Evone) Erdman of Aitkin, Arnold (Rose) Erdman of Cokato, Marvin (Rose) Erdman of Garrison, and Rynold Erdman of Corcoran; sisters: Selma Youngquist, Helen Guetzkow and Irene Gilbert, all of California; and Irma Howard of Remer; three sisters-in-law, step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition, to her husbands, Ida was preceded in death by her parents; Sons-in-law, DeWayne Peterson and Kenneth Helmbrecht; a grandson, Keith Helmbrecht; a step-son, Cletus Roufs; three sisters and six brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, April 24, 9:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant and interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Friday, April 23, from 4 to 9 p.m. A Holy Family Council and St. Anne's rosary was recited at the funeral home on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Lavon Kielkucki provided special music for the Mass. Ida's grandsons served as her casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
