Lowell W. Schatz, 10/26/2000


A memorial services was held for Lowell W. Schatz, 70,
of Hutchinson on Thursday, Nov. 2, from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester
Prairie, with the Rev. Grant Bode officiating.
Mr. Schatz died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Burns Manor
Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Organist was Jane Holasek, and soloist Chuck Thiel sang
“Abide With Me.”
Congregational hymns were “For All The Saints, Who
For Their Labors Rest,” “Rock Of Ages” and “Softly And
Tenderly.”
Honorary pallbearers were Andrea Alsleben, Cori Struzyk,
Todd Struzyk, Nathan Schatz, Matt Alsleben and Kristy Alsleben. Interment
was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
Mr. Schatz was born on Aug. 20, 1930, in Brownton to Elrich
and Elsie (Genz) Schatz. He was baptized as an infant on Sept. 3, 1930,
at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. He was confirmed as a youth in
1944, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. He graduated from Brownton
High School in 1948.
Mr. Schatz was united in marriage to Betty Lou Schlueter
on Oct. 27, 1950.
They lived in Minneapolis, where he worked for Montgomery
Ward for two years. He was self-employed from 1952 to 1957 with his milk
route in the Brownton area. They moved to Lester Prairie in 1957, where
he worked for Schwartz Manufacturing for 30 years, before retiring and moving
to
Hutchinson. He also worked as a secretary for St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie from 1981 to 1983.
Mr. Schatz spent time visiting his daughters in Colorado
and New Mexico in the winters. He spent summers fishing and touring northern
Minnesota. He loved all sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and the
Minnesota Vikings.
He has been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in
Lester Prairie for 43 years.
Mr. Schatz became ill in 1995, with Huntington’s disease
and prostate cancer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Schatz of Hutchinson;
daughters, Paulette Alsleben and husband, Walter, of Alamogordo, N.M., Wendy
Shields and husband, Jim, of Castle Rock, Colo.; son, Bob Schatz and fiancee,
Lisa Lytle, of Corcoran; grandchildren, Andrea Alsleben of Castle Rock,
Colo., Cori Struzyk and husband, Todd, of Eagan, Nathan Schatz of Hutchinson,
Matt Alsleben and wife, Kristy, of Las Cruces, N.M.; sisters, Delores Knop
of Norwood Young America, Myra Peters of Mendota Heights; brothers, Lloyd
Schatz and wife, Denny, of Spokane, Wash., Gail Schatz and wife, Beverly,
of Glencoe.
Mr. Schatz was preceded in death by parents; brother, Dwayne
Schatz; and brother-in-law, John Knop.
The Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel of Hutchinson handled
arrangements.
