Harold Morris Schoephoerster, age 65 of Howard Lake, died
Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at his home.
Harold was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Britton, S.D., to Elmer
and Ida (Schultz) Schoephoerster. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Lisbon, N.D.
While growing up in Lisbon, Harold had many jobs. His first
job was a paper route, which was how he bought his first bike. He also packed
wool, worked with a veterinarian, worked at a creamery, on a farm, at a
bowling alley setting up pins, and with a brick layer.
Harold graduated from Lisbon Public Schools in May 1952
and was drafted into the U. S. Army in November 1953 during the Korean conflict.
He went to quartermaster school and became a personnel specialist. After
his tour of duty, Harold was in the National Guard and was honorably discharged
in January 1959.
Harold attended Valley City Teachers College in Valley
City, N.D., and graduated with a degree of bachelor of science in education
in May 1959. He was a president of Tau Sig fraternity.
His first teaching job was in Crosby, N.D., where he taught
business education, driver’s education, and was the librarian. He taught
six years in Crosby. During the summer, he worked with the North Dakota
highway department, Red Owl grocery store, and with a plumber.
In 1962, Harold was married to Patricia Ann Maxwell of
Attica, Ohio. They lived in Crosby for three years, and their son, Michael
Harold, and daughter, Brenda Ann, were born there.
In 1965, Harold moved his family to Howard Lake, Minn.
to start teaching in the Howard Lake Public School, where he would teach
for the next 26 years. Their third child, Beth Ann, was born in Howard Lake.
During the summer months, Harold worked for Green Giant, Neumanns National
Van Lines Moving Company out of St. Paul, Munson Feed Company of Howard
Lake, and the Wright County Highway Department.
Harold enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, cutting wood,
reading, and watching birds. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Harold passed away in his home while surrounded by his
family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He had reached the age of 65
years, seven months, and 22 days.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy;
and sister-in-law, Norma Schoephoerster.
Harold is survived by his wife Patricia; son, Michael (Kim)
of Mound; daughters, Brenda (Paul) Schillo of Wrenshall and Beth (Mick)
Endersbe of Lakeville; brothers: Dale (Allie) of Greenvalle, Ariz.; Delbert
(Helen) of Phoenix, Ariz.; Merle of Greenville, N.C.; and Ralph (Betty)
of Twin Valley, Minn.; grandchildren: Jamie and Marshall Schoephoerster,
Caleb Schillo, Carley and Libbey Endersbe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, July 8, 1999, 1 p.m., at
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating.
Music was by Grant Judd and Bruce Gatz. Interment was at Fort Snelling National
Cemetery.
Casket bearers were John Scheveck, Joan Johnson, Robert
Heber, Larry Englestad, Nancy Main, and Milton Jensen.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc.,
Cokato and Howard Lake, Minn.
