Jerome H. Sexton obituary, 1/16/2000


Jerome H. “Jerry” Sexton, age 71 of Waverly,
died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Jerry was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Stockholm Township, rural
Cokato, Minn., the son of John Edward and Mary (Keefe) Sexton.
He was married to Kathleen Mary O’Connell.
Jerry was very active in his community. He served one term
as a Waverly council member; he was an active Waverly Booster Club member
for many years and its president for one and one-half terms; one of many
founding members of Waverly Community Homes Project; a Legion member; and
the city of Waverly’s “Mr. Waverly” in June 1995.
Jerry served his country in the Army.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, walking, sing-a-longs, watching
sporting activities, and in his later years, his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife Kathleen; son, John and Marcia
of Burnsville; three daughters, Mary Beth and Louis Mitteco of New Brighton,
Kathy and Patrick Boerbon of Plymouth, and Becky and Jeffrey Evenski of
Howard Lake; six grandchildren; a brother, Daniel “Boone” Sexton
of Waverly; and two sisters, Mary Painschab of Waverly, and Kathleen and
Cletus Stifter of Robbinsdale.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Jan. 19 at noon,
with the Revs. Gerald Keefe and Bob Wiley concelebrating. Music was by St.
Mary’s Church Choir. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Jim Knowlton, Arnold Painschab, Jr.; Daniel Sexton, Jr.;
and Douglas, Mark, and Bruce Sexton served as pallbearers.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 18, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Church
of St. Mary, with a 6 p.m. prayer service; and also one hour prior to the
service on Wednesday.
Arrangements were by Iten Funeral Home, Delano.
