Frances Louise Shepperd obituary, 12/14/99


Frances Louise Shepperd, age 91 of Howard Lake, died Tuesday,
Dec. 14, 1999.
Frances was born Oct. 22, 1908, in Middleville Township,
the daughter of August and Augusta (Bobrowski) Birkholz. A life-long member
of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, Frances was baptized Nov. 22,
1908 by the Rev. Ernst Robert, and confirmed in her faith May 27, 1923 by
the Rev. A. L. Oetjen.
On June 29, 1926, Frances was united in marriage to Martin
Shepperd at St. James by Rev. C. G. Seltz. This union was blessed with the
birth of four children.
Fran enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a member of the
Rebecca Guild at St. James and volunteered regularly for church and school
projects.
While a resident at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care
Center on Dec. 14, 1999, Fran was called to her eternal rest at the age
of 91 years, one month, and 22 days.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, August and Augusta
Birkholz; her husband Martin; three brothers: Awalt Birkholz, Charles Birkholz,
and Arthur Birkholz; six sisters: Ottilie Fiedler, Pauline Workman, Alice
Shepperd, Emilie Prigge, Eva Birkholz, and Ione Rathkamp: and one infant
grandchild, David Pettit.
She is survived by her four children: LaMae and husband,
Russ, Pettit of Howard Lake; Luther and wife, Betty, of Willmar; Marjorie
and husband, Neil Stueven of Las Cruses, N.M.; and Joseph and wife, Judy,
of Matthews, N.C.; one sister, Esther Ditmore of San Jancinto, Calif.; 19
grandchildren: James Pettit, Jonathan Pettit, Jerry Pettit, Joel Pettit,
Jeffrey Pettit, Jay Pettit, Daniel Pettit, Jesse Pettit, Mary Pettit, Melissa
Pettit, Vicky Cook, Scott Shepperd, Jill Carlson, Jodi Nelson, Jere Thorne,
Jeane Tollefson, Timothy Shepperd, Jacqui Shepperd, and Amie Shepperd; 30
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, and a
host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at St. James
Lutheran Church with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating.
The organist was Nancy Butterfass. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery
on Dutch Lake.
Honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren. Those
grandchildren serving as active pallbearers were Jerry Pettit, Joel Pettit,
Jesse Pettit, Jere Thorne, Scott Shepperd, and Timothy Shepperd.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home
of Howard Lake.
