Donald George Streich

Donald George Streich, age 77 of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999.

Donald was born Feb. 28, 1922, the son of John and Ida (Boettcher) Streich in Howard Lake, Minn. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, Donald was baptized on March 26, 1922, by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen, and confirmed in his faith April 14, 1935, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz.

Donald farmed all his life on the family farm east of Howard Lake. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He never missed a Howard Lake fishing contest and had participated in 51 of them over the years. As a farmer, he took an interest in the local tractor pulls and often competed.

Donald was suddenly called to his eternal rest at the age of 77 years, three months, and 12 days while at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Streich; one brother, Ralph Streich; two half-brothers, Ted and Bob Streich; and three half-sisters, Esther Birkholz, Gertrude Gabbert, and Julie Gilmore.

Donald is survived by one sister-in-law, LaVay Streich of Watertown; three nephews and one niece: Gary Streich and wife, Rita, of Howard Lake; Judy Gagnon and husband, Steve, of Waverly; Rick Streich of Howard Lake; and Steve Streich and wife, Mary, of Montrose; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews: Carrie and Jackie Streich of Howard Lake, Chad Gagnon and wife, Katie, of Howard Lake, Dean and Jenna Gagnon of Waverly, Jacob, Matthew and Chelsea Streich of Howard Lake, Stephanie, and Jessica, Ryan and Brittany Streich of Montrose; two great-great nephews, Carter Streich and Cole Gagnon; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, June 14, 1999, at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chad Gagnon, Dean Gagnon, Jacob Streich, Dale Engel, Wayne Doering, and Dave Decker. Honorary pallbearers were Stan Norquist and Kenny Kritzeck.

Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
