Selma Helma Lydia Strey obituary, 9/11/2000

Selma Helma Lydia Strey, age 90 of Lester Prairie, died
Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at St. Mary’s Care Center, Winsted.
Selma was born Feb. 3, 1910 in Mayer, Minn., the daughter
of Henry and Dora (Maack) Schuette. She was baptized Feb. 21, 1910, at Zion
Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. Erthel; and confirmed by the same April
13, 1924.
On May 8, 1929, Selma was united in marriage to Arthur
Strey at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. Erthel. The couple lived
with Herman and Emma Strey, Selma’s father- and mother-in-law until 1933,
when they moved to the Rudolph Lueck farm southeast of Lester Prairie.
In 1935, Selma and Arthur moved to a farm by Foley, Minn.,
and they lived there until 1938, when they bought a farm three miles north
of Lester Prairie. The couple lived on the farm until 1943, when they moved
into the town of Lester Prairie.
While living in Lester Prairie, Selma worked at various
places including Karl Spellum Nursing Home, Basel Produce, Radtke Produce,
and Tonka Toys. She also did housecleaning for several people until she
retired in 1988.
Selma loved anything that she could do outdoors, especially
her vegetable and flower gardens. She was always disappointed when winter
would come because it meant an end to her gardening until the following
spring when she loved to watch the fresh new growth.
At the time of her death, Selma had reached the age of
90 years, seven months, and eight days.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Dora
Schuette; her husband Arthur; four brothers: Fred, William, Henry, and Edward;
and two sisters, Ella Latzig and Hilda Domjahn.
Selma is survived by a son, Earl Strey (wife, Audrey) of
Lester Prairie; sisters-in-law, Luella Schuette of Lester Prairie; and Eleanora
Strey and Elvira Eggersgluess, both of Hopkins; many nieces, nephews, and
other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m., at St.
Paul Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Grant bode officiating.
The organist was Marsha Christensen and the congregational hymns were “Rock
of Ages” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.” The soloist,
Marvin Westermann, sang “Softly and Tenderly” and “The Lord
Is My Shepherd.”
Serving as casket bearers were Norville Schuette, Earland
Latzig, Vernon Domjahn, Leonard Schuette, Delbert Schuette, and Marvin Latzig.

Visitation was Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Paul-McBride
Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie. Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery
in Lester Prairie.
