Lola Jeanne Totushek
Lola Jeanne Totushek, age 75 of Hutchinson, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her home.
Jeanne was born June 7, 1923, in rural Stewart, the daughter of Darrel and Kitty (Steffins) McLain. She was baptized as an infant and later joined and was confirmed at the Vineyard Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
Jeanne attended rural schools in Renville County and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1941.
On March 3, 1946, Jeanne was married to Daniel Totushek in the Vineyard Methodist Church with the Rev. Russell V. Carr officiating. They made their home on the Totushek farm. During their 53 years of marriage, Jeanne and Dan had five children: Dennis, Pamela, Dean, Scott, and Julie; and later much enjoyed their eight grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Jeanne was employed for more than 20 years as a teacher's aide at Winsted Public School in the kindergarten class and later as secretary to the principal. She also worked at Janousek's Cafe, owned by her sister and brother-in-law; Getzke Meat Market, and the Coca Cola plant in Hutchinson.
Throughout her lifetime, Jeanne enjoyed gardening, dancing, baking, especially kolaches and apple pies; sewing, crafts, and collecting buttons. In recent years, she also enjoyed making trips to the casino. She was a devoted wife and mother, but heaven forbid you should call her between 6:30 and 7 p.m. while she was watching the Wheel of Fortune on TV.
She was active in the Happy Homemakers Home Extension group and was a 50-year member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge Lumir No. 34.
In September, 1998, Jeanne became ill and was diagnosed as terminal. Her family is thankful to have been able to fulfill her wishes to be at home during her illness. It was there that she passed away quietly the evening of March 4, 1999, at the age of 75.
Jeanne is survived by her husband Dan; children and spouses: Dennis of Osseo; Pam Larson and husband, Quentin; Dean and wife, Nita; Scott and wife, Kathy; and Julie Juaire and husband, Bill, all of the Hutchinson/Silver Lake area; eight grandchildren: Kari, Tammy, Sean, Shay, Kelli, Teri, Tony, and Derek; and one great-grandchild, Shay's son, Kyle.
She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Henry Janousek; sisters-in-law, Ruth Gray, Ruby Dettman, Myrtle Urban, and Mary Vorlicek.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Kitty and Darrel McLain; brothers, Clifford, Arlyn, and one infant brother; sister, Arlene Janousek; brothers-in-law, Rudy Urban and Howard Vorlicek; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Agnes and Louis Totushek.
