Raymond Ernest Vacek
Funeral services for Raymond Ernest Vacek, 77, of Payson, Ariz., were held on Thursday, May 20, from St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe, with the Rev. Eugene Lozinski officiating.
Mr. Vacek died on Monday, May 15, 1999, at the Payson Care Center.
Organist was Emily Wilkins, and cantor was Joanne Pohland. The hymns were "Here I Am Lord," "Be Not Afraid," "Prayer of St. Francis," "Song of Farewell" and "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory."
Military graveside services were held by American Legion Post 141. Pallbearers were Wayne Wraspir, Gary Cuhel, David Wosmek, Mike Wosmek, Jerome Wosmek and Stan Beck. Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Vacek was born on Nov. 8, 1921, in Glencoe to George Charles and Mary Louise (Honzalek) Vacek. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1939.
After he served 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Army Air Force, most of the time as an altitude chamber technician, he served as a fireman on Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Mr. Vacek moved to Arizona in 1974.
He loved anything that pertained to airplanes, including owning his own airplane.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Raymond Wosmek; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled arrangements.
