Alvin W. Vollrath

Funeral services were Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, for Alvin W. Vollrath, age 71 of Mayer and New Germany. Alvin died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Auburn West, Waconia.

Alvin was born April 27, 1928, at Waconia Township, Carver County, Minn., the son of Fred A. and Lydia (Neumann) Vollrath. He was baptized May 27, 1928, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed March 29, 1942 at the same by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.

On Feb. 15, 1951, Alvin married Vera A. Latzig at St. Mark Parsonage, New Germany, by the Rev. Fred J. Pfotenhauer.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lydia Vollrath; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Art and Anna Latzig; and his step-mother-in-law, Mamie Latzig.

A veteran of the Korean War, Alvin was a member of the New Germany Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife Vera; sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Elmer Barlau of Cologne; brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Evelyn Vollrath of Mayer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Melvin and Elaine Latzig of New Germany; nieces and nephews, James and Carol Barlau of Plato, Linda Thaemert of Cologne, Lynette and Terry Rettig of Cologne, Carol Barlau of Overland Park, Kan.; John and Tamera Barlau of Waconia; David Latzig of New Germany; Diane and Gary Hardel of Chaska, Steven Vollrath of Norwood Young America, and Brian Vollrath of Cologne; great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, with the Rev. Peter A. Meier officiating. Interment was at Crow River Cemetery, New Germany, with graveside services by the New Germany Legion Post.

Casket bearers were James Barlau, John Barlau, Terry Rettig, Gary Hardel, David Latzig, Tim Zellmann, Randy Pawelk, Steven Vollrath, and Brian Vollrath. The New Germany Legion Post served as honorary casket bearers.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
