Stanley A. Weibel, Sr. obituary 3/23/99


Stanley A. Weibel, Sr., age 64 of Winsted, died Tuesday,
March 23, 1999 at his residence.
Stanley was born at his family’s home in Winsted Aug. 23,
1934, the son of Paul J. and Ellen Carlson Weibel.
He was baptized Sept. 9, 1934 at St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Winsted. He was instructed in the Lutheran Cathechism
and confirmed in the Christian faith by the Rev. Vomhof March 30, 1947,
also at St. John’s.
Stanley graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1952.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and honorably served until
1956.
On Sept. 12, 1969, Stanley was united in marriage to Jacqueline
J. Babler in Watertown, S. D.
Stanley spent 36 years in the auto industry and 30 of those
years were with the Walser Corp. He also was employed for five years at
Innocast Corp. in Howard Lake, and was involved for the past 3 1/2 years
with his wife and son in their family business, Snow and Sun Country Small
Engine Repair in Cokato.
Stanley was elected to the Winsted City Council and officially
took office on Jan. 1, 1979. During his term, he served as street commissioner
and deputy mayor. He was later appointed mayor of Winsted to fill an unexpired
mayoral term. He served as mayor from Aug. 3, 1981 to Dec. 21, 1982.
Stanley was a past commander and a member of American Legion
Post #407. He also belonged to VFW. Post #9232.
He loved boating, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. He also
enjoyed going to his trailer on Lake Mille Lacs every weekend.
Stan is survived by his wife Jackie; children: Stan Weibel
Jr. of Cokato, Donna (Rick) Billstrom of Waco, Ga.; Susan (Steve) Ray of
Mesa, Ariz.; Becky (Russ) Wallace of San Angelo, Texas; Cynthia (Joe) Conway
of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and Steven Reynolds of Longmont, Colo.; and grandchildren:
Trevor and Kerstin Weibel, Susan, Caleb and Tyler Wallace; Stephanie and
Joseph Reynolds; and another due in two months.
He is further survived by sisters and brothers: Ruth Noreen
of Winsted, Martin “Les” (Marilyn) Weibel of Hopkins, June (George)
Nick of Hastings, Harold “Pete” (Muriel) Weibel of Winsted, Glen
(Ellen) Weibel of Cannon Falls, Bob (Mary Ann) Weibel of San Mateo, Calif.;
and Curtis (Kathy) Weibel of Larsen, Wisc.; a sister-in-law, Marcy Weibel
of Winsted; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Karen) Babler, Kerry
(Jean) Babler and David (Carol) Babler, all of Mound; and many other relatives
and friends, including a special friend, Nicky Cochran.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and
Ellen Weibel; an infant son; four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 27, 1:30 p.m., at
St. John’s Evangelical Church in Winsted with the Rev. Gerald L. Boldt officiating.
Donna Richards was the vocalist for the funeral service.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted,
Friday, March 26 from 4 to 8 p.m, with an American Legion Ritual at 6:45
p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Stan Weibel Jr., John Babler, Joe Koopman, Raymond Kohler,
Allen Emme, Jesse Kurtz, and Roger Pokorny served as the casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
