Mary Antonette Miller obituary 9/13/99


Mary A. Wolken, age 90 of rural Jackson, died Monday, Sept.
13, 1999, at Jackson Medical Center Hospital.
Mary Antonette Miller was born May 7, 1909, to Henry and
Catherine (Wolken) Miller in Buckman, Minn. She received her education in
rural school near Rice, Minn.
Mary was employed as a nurse’s aid in the Little Falls
Hospital.
On Nov. 25, 1936, Mary was united in marriage to Edward
Wolken in Bartelsville, Okla. After their marriage, they lived in several
communities in southern Minnesota, until settling in their present home
in Petersburg, Minn., just south of Jackson, in 1970.
Mary was a member of the Oratory of St. Alphonsus Liguori-Alpha,
Minn. Along with her husband, she helped with the custodian cares of the
Church of the Good Shepard in Jackson. She greatly enjoyed flowers and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband, Edward of Petersburg; a
son, Kenneth Wolken and his wife, Betty, of rural Jackson; four grandchildren:
Kim Wolken Sommerland and her husband, Kevin, of Tucumcari, N.M.; Cheryl
Wolken of Minneapolis; Christopher Wolken of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Patty
Wolken of Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Sommerland;
a brother, Joe Miller and his wife, Margaret, of Rice; nieces, nephews,
and other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; children, Robert,
Teresa, and John Wolken; adopted daughter, Barbara Wolken Meyer; a granddaughter,
Jodi Meyer; brothers, August Miller and Leo Miller; an infant sister; and
other relatives.
A Tridentine Latin Mass was said Friday, Sept. 17, 1999,
10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield, with the Rev. Jerome
Verdick officiating. Organist was Phyllis Salz. Kevin Sullivan and Matt
Stegenga were Mass servers.
Casket bearers were Tom Sullivan, Tom Wieneke, William
Roder, Howard Nielsen, Richard Janders, and Tim Kretchmer. Burial was in
Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at
the Oratory of St. Alphonsus Ligouri-Father Verdick Chapel in Alpha, Minn.,
and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. A holy rosary
was at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Arrangements were made for the family by the Kramer Family
Funeral Service.
