Mary Emma (Akins) Workman died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000,
at the Howard Lake Care Center.
Mary was born June 6, 1901, to David and Emma (Gill) Akins
in Albion, Ill. Her family moved to Redwood Falls, Minn., when she was a
little girl, and then, later, to Waverly.
Mary married Vaughn Workman Nov. 15, 1927. She worked in
the post office.
Mary loved to bowl and was very good at it. She did beautiful
embroidery and loved flowers.
At the time of her death, Mary had reached the age of 99
years, three months, and 19 days.
She is survived by her two great nieces, Pat Gabbert of
Howard Lake, and Mary Melquist of Cokato; and a special friend, Dorothy
Maynard of Howard Lake.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
brothers, Maurice, Loren, Allen, and Joseph; nephew, Ralph; and great-nephew,
David.
Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 28, 1:30 p.m., at
Walker United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Repinski officiating.
Music was by Mae Beth Wannarka, Bonnie Seegmiller, and Mildred Williams.
Interment was at Howard Lake Cemetery.
Justin Gabbert, Pat Gabbert, Elton Gruenhagen, Merlyn Lutter,
Orville Lutter, and Mary Melquist were casket bearers.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc.,
Cokato and Howard Lake.
