Edward A. Zaruba
Funeral services for Edward A. Zaruba, 91, of Silver Lake were held on June 7 from Holy Family Church in Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating.
Mr. Zaruba died on June 2, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center.
Organist was Val Shamla, and the Holy Family Adult Choir sang. Commentator was Kevin Ruzicka.
Pallbearers were Leroy Penas, Ron Penas, Bill Schaeve, Roger Ruzicka, Dennis Ruzicka and Larry Ruzicka. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Mr. Zaruba was born on Jan. 17, 1908 in Hassan Valley Township to Joseph and Mary (Koktan) Zaruba. He completed the eighth grade in country school.
Mr. Zaruba farmed, and he worked in a lumberyard for a few years after his retirement.
He was married to Lorraine Vacek on Oct. 30, 1944.
His hobbies included gardening, playing cards, visiting and listening to oldtime music.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Holy Family Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; children, Nancy Wraspir and husband, Orrin, and Elroy Zaruba; four grandchildren; sister, Anna Ruzicka and husband, Richard; sisters-in-law, Alice Zaruba and Agnes Zaruba, as well as nieces and nephews.
Mr. Zaruba was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; brothers, Joe Zaruba, Albin Zaruba, George Zaruba, John Zaruba, Charles Zaruba and wife, Alice; sisters, Mary Zaruba, Emma Penas and husband, Frank, and Lillian Navratil and husband Otto.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled arrangements.
