Florence Elda Zumach
Florence Elda Zumach, age 91 of rural Hutchinson, Lynn Township, McLeod County, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
She was born July 26, 1908, in Lynn Township, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Plath) Schmidt.
Florence was baptized Sept. 20, 1908, at Zion Lutheran Church, Lynn Township, by the Rev. J. Albrecht. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by the Rev. Schuetze at Zion Lutheran Church on May 28, 1922.
On Feb. 5, 1937, Florence was joined in holy marriage to Wendell Zumach at the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church, Lynn Township. The Rev. Weise officiated at the wedding ceremony. God blessed their marriage with two sons.
Wendell and Florence engaged in dairy farming for many years in Lynn Township, McLeod County.
Florence was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.
She is survived by her husband Wendell; a son, Milan (Pat) Zumach of Buffalo; a daughter-in-law; Beverly Zumach of Hutchinson; five grandchildren: Lori (Mike) Buske, Kathy (Tim) Oestreich, Angie Zumach and special friend, Marc Davis; Darin (Lauri) Zumach, and Dean Zumach; three great-grandchildren: Briana Oestreich and Kylee and Kari Zumach; sisters, Margaret Wendorff of Dassel, and Alice Koester of Gaylord; a brother, Victor (Lucy) Schmidt; and a sister-in-law, Leona Schmidt, all of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John V. Zumach in 1996; a brother, Fred Schmidt; and four sisters: Hazel Wendorff, Ruth Luthens, Viola Heller and Alvern Bahr.
Funeral services were Friday, June 30, 2 p.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Gerhard H. Bode officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Organist for the funeral service was Paul Otte. The Rev. Jonathan Rathjen served as the vocalist.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.
Norman Wendorff, Gilbert Schultz, Lloyd Peterson, Emil Starke, Franklin Boller and Louis Zumach served as casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, served the family.
