Maurice F. Glessing
Maurice F. Glessing, age 78 of Victor Township, rural Howard Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center.
Maurice was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Victor Township, the son of Henry and Emma (Zech) Glessing.
He was born again to be God's own child by the "washing of water in the Word" when he was baptized April 2,1922, by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake. Maurice was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 14, 1935, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church.
He remained faithful to the promises he made at his confirmation all his life and died a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church.
On June 2, 1945, Maurice and Eva Dehnbostel were joined in holy marriage at St. James Lutheran Church. God blessed their marriage with a son.
Maurice engaged in dairy farming his entire life.
As a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, Maurice served as a member of the Elementary Board of Education, an elder and a trustee.
He was active for many years with the Wright County Farm Bureau and in the Howard Lake Shipping Association.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eva; a son, Allen H. (Sharon) Glessing of Howard Lake; grandchildren, Nicole (Karl) Hills of Maple Grove and Daniel Glessing of Howard Lake; brothers and a sister, Omar (Verna) Glessing, Eva Handrich and Lorren (Jean) Glessing, all of Howard Lake; sisters-in-law, Edna Glessing, Vernice Glessing, Esther Lorentz, Edna Butterfass and Delores Dehnbostel; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Glessing; brothers, Warren and Howard Glessing; and a sister, Mabel Sherva.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1:30 p.m., at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Nancy Butterfass. Special music was provided by the Ladies' Choir, who sang "Beautiful Savior." Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Abide with Me."Interment followed at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, Jan. 1, 4 to 9 p.m., at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Casket bearers were Robert Schendel, George Bakeberg, Greg Bakeberg, Neal Glessing, Dennis Butterfass and Wallace Krienke.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
