Rob Dwayne Hickman
Rob Dwayne Hickman, age 21 of Monticello and formerly of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, as the result of an early morning auto accident.
Rob was born at Buffalo, Minn., Jan. 25, 1979, to Dwayne and Cynthia (Strand) Hickman. He was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, and confirmed in his Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard Lake.
Rob grew up in Howard Lake where he attended school, graduating from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School in 1997. While in school, he participated on the football, basketball, and golf teams.
Rob also enjoyed water sports, especially waterskiing and riding on jet skis. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, and snowmobiling.
Rob worked with his father at Nord Excavating, Elk River, as a foreman on a heavy equipment crew. Work was very important to him, and he hardly ever missed a day.
Most of all, Rob enjoyed his family and friends. Some of his fondest memories were of spending time at the home of his godparents, Garland and Eva Hintz. He was very fond of his sister, Hayley.
Rob's life would not have been complete without his girlfriend of the past three years, Lacy Nygaard. The couple had spent the last year and one half together in Monticello.
At the time of his death, Rob had reached the age of 21 years, nine months, and 29 days.
He is survived by his parents, Dwayne and Patty Hickman of Clearwater; and Cindy and Randy Nrast of Maple Lake; his loving girlfriend, Lacy Nygaard; sisters, Holly and Bruce Karels of Howard Lake, and Hayley of Clearwater; grandparents, Lee and Pat Strand of Waverly, and Gladys Hickman of Howard Lake; and godparents, Garland and Eva Hintz of Howard Lake.
Rob was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clement Hickman.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 27, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating. Music was provided by Diane Johnson and Mike Halverson. Interment followed at St. James Lutheran Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Ryan Amland, Dan Gruenhagen, Nathan Mattson, John Stuevens, Dennis DeMarais, Josh Lauzer, and Mike Lawler served as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Bruce Karels, Nathan Terning, and Nick Nygaard.
Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc., Cokato and Howard Lake handled the arrangements.
