Edwin John Olk
Edwin John Olk, age 78 of Chaska, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
A memorial Mass took place Monday, Dec. 18, at the Bertas Funeral Home, Chaska, with the Rev. Larry Johnson of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, officiating.
Cremation was at Lakewood Crematory, Minneapolis; and inurnment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Edwin was born Dec. 3, 1922, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Michael and Anna (Stein) Olk, one of nine children. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Cloud, and attended school in Watkins, Minn.
Edwin served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1943 until 1946.
On May 29, 1948, Edwin married Marcella Neumann at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. They had five children.
Edwin and Marcella were residents of Minneapolis and St. Louis Park, prior to moving to Chaska in 1979. Edwin was employed at Twin City Bus, and Greyhound as a mechanic. He was then employed by Medicine Lake Bus Company, retiring after 12 years.
He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Chaska, and the Chaska American Legion Post #57.
Edwin enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, stockcar racing, and dancing. He was an avid Minnesota Gopher, Viking, and Twins fan; and he loved polka music.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marcella; sons, David, and Daryl of Chaska, and Mark of Watertown; daughter, Cheryl Olk of Chaska; and sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred and Francis Lorentz of Mankato, and Annetta Olk of Watkins.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; brothers, Clarence, Ernie, Jerome, and Raymond; and sisters, Marie and Annella.
