Sarah Jean Beneke
Sarah Jean Beneke, age 35, of rural Glencoe, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato, the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident while traveling with her parents.
Sarah was born in Glencoe Sept. 23, 1965, the daughter of Glen and Lora (Templin) Beneke. She was baptized Oct. 17, 1965, at First Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Meissner, and confirmed at the same church April 27, 1980, by the Rev. Kath.
Sarah attended Glencoe High School and graduated with honors in the top 10 of her class in 1984. In the fall of 1984, Sarah attended St. Cloud State University (SCSU). She graduated from SCSU in the fall of 1988, with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and with Summa Cum Laude honors.
While in college, Sarah was a member of the honor society Phi Kappa Phi, and the Accounting Club. She was also awarded the certificate of scholastic achievement for six quarters and worked part-time as a library assistant at the Learning Resources Center.
Sarah was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She spent many hours solving challenging crossword puzzles, and would read everything from any book, novel, or magazine. She would also spend time sewing and making crafts.
One of Sarah's greatest loves was of working along side her parents on their 160-acre beef, pig, and crop farm. On the farm, she loved to garden, grow flowers, and loved playing with and raising her cats.
Her love for cats also included collecting cat knick-knacks and trivia items.
Sarah is preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as two nephews, Samuel and Jonathan.
She is survived by her parents, Glen and Lora Beneke, two sisters and one brother, Lois (Bruce) Graham of Rogers, Susan (Allan) Debner of Winsted, and Dale Beneke of Orlando, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Katie Graham, Jackie Graham, Christina Debner, Abigail Debner, and Anne Debner; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Sarah Jean Beneke were conducted Wednesday, June 13, 2 p.m. at the Johnson-McBride Chapel, Glencoe, with the Rev. Vance Becker officiating.
Organist was Debbie Olson, and the congregation sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus."
Casketbearers were Tom Aul, LeRoy Jungclaus, Kenneth Terlinden, Gary Templin, Robert Sellnow, Ross Granzke, Amy Thomes, and Sheila Gayler.
Friends called Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel. Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Glencoe.
