Alice L. Debner
Alice L. Debner, age 76, of rural Plato, passed away Saturday,
Aug. 4, 2001.
Alice Luanna Debner was born the daughter of Reinhold and
Paulina (Tonn) Mathews Aug. 12, 1924, in Helen Township of McLeod County.

She was baptized Sept. 7, 1924, at the First Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Glencoe, by the Rev. E. Kolbe. Alice was later confirmed
at the same church April 10, 1938, by the Rev. A. Streufert. She attended
the First Lutheran Parochial School.
Alice was united in marriage with Lawrence Debner at First
Lutheran Church June 17, 1945, by the Rev. A. Struefert. The couple made
their home on a farm east of Plato, where they were engaged in farming.

Alice suffered the death of her husband Sept. 1, 1965,
but continued to run the farm with her children and the help of Alvin Wegner.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau and the McLeod County
Republican Women’s Committee.
Her church membership was at First Lutheran and Frieden’s
County Line Church of rural Norwood Young America. Alice also attended services
at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Alice enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, and traveling,
which included trips to Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, and Russia.
For the past three years, Alice has been a resident of
St. Mary’s Care Center, Winsted. It was there that she entered her eternal
rest at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 22 days.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandsons,
Jonathan and Samuel Debner; and four brothers, Orville, Marvin, Earl, and
Eldor Mathews.
She is survived by her sons, Allan (Susan) Debner of Winsted,
and Dale (Kathy) Debner of Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Christina Debner,
Abigail Debner, Anne Debner, Bethany Debner, Alyssa Debner; sister, Lorna
Ehrke of Plato; brothers, Raymond (Willie) Mathews of Sedilia, Mo., Norman
(Dorie) Mathews of Glencoe, Hillard Mathews of Lester Prairie, Erwin (Ruth)
Mathews of Glencoe; sisters-in-law of Anna Mathews of Glencoe and Myrtle
Mathews of Glencoe; speical friend, Alvin Wegner of Plato; as well as many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Alice Debner were conducted Tuesday,
Aug. 7, 2001, 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. Officiating
was the Rev. Grant Bode.
Prelude music was provided by Alice’s oldest granddaughter,
Bethany Debner on the piano. The organist was Jane Holasek.
The congregational hymns were “My Faith Looks Up To
Thee,” “Jesus, Lead Thou On,” “Stand Up, Stand Up For
Jesus,” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.”
Arnold Mathews, Merlin Mathews, Donald Mathews, Rodney
Mathews, Duane Mathews, and John Dettmenn served as casketbearers.
Interment was in the St. Paul’s Cemetery in Plato.
Visitation was Monday evening, Aug.6, at the Paul-McBride
Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie.
