Viola B. "Ole" Ernst
Viola B. "Ole" Ernst, age 87, of Lester Prairie, passed away Sept. 7, 2001 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Viola was born the daughter of Adolph and Minnie (Dummer) Pinske Feb. 1, 1914, in Glencoe.
The Rev. E. Kolbe baptized Viola March 1, 1914, at the First Lutheran Church in Glencoe, and also confirmed her at First Lutheran Church April 1, 1928.
Ole attended Glencoe Public School and First Lutheran School through the eighth grade.
Viola was united in marriage to Everett Ernst in Lester Prairie Feb. 6, 1932. The couple lived in Lester Prairie until 1953 when they then moved to Brownton, Glencoe, and then Hutchinson.
Everett and Viola moved back to Lester Prairie in 1978, and this is where Ole lived until her death.
Ole was a charter member and past president of the St. Paul Lutheran Church's LWML. She enjoyed sewing fancywork for household items, liked having garage sales with neighbors and friends, and enjoyed playing cards for many years with her lady friends.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; brother, Alvin, and sisters, Leona and Laverna.
She is survived by her son, Terry (Phyllis) Ernst of Lester Prairie; grandsons, Chuck (Daphne) Ernst of Silver Lake and Brad (Chris) Ernst of Lester Prairie.
She is further survived by three brothers, Herbert (Elizabeth) Pinske of Minneapolis, Raymond (Martha) Pinske of Apple Valley, and Gordon (Margaret) Pinske of Bloomington; three sisters, Lorna Guetzkow of Mayer, Gertrude Coulter of Anoka, and Myrtle Mathews of Glencoe; sisters-in-law, Edna Ernst of Mayer and Malinda Fillbrandt of Norwood Young America, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. The Rev. Grant Bode officiated the service,
Jane Holasek was the organist, and the congregational hymns were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Softly and Tenderly."
Chuck Thiel served as soloist, and sang "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden."
Serving as casketbearers were Leon Guetzkow, Larry Mathews, Roland Thiel, Duane Mielke, Glen McPadden, and Stanley Ernst.
Honorary casketbearers were Linda Schmerbaugh, Stephanie Klinefelter, Gregory Pinske, and Ronald Pinske.
Visitation was Monday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie, and Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
