Rose Hanson, age 88 of Longville, Minn. and formerly of Howard Lake, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2001.
Rose was born in Deer Creek, Iowa, June 21, 1912. She graduated from Lyle High School, Lyle, Minn., and completed business college. She was employed by American Gas Co. (Queen Stove Works) and Wilson & Company, Albert Lea.
Rose married William "Bill" E. Hansen in 1933, and lived in Albert Lea. They moved to Howard Lake in 1946, where they bought a grocery store.
They sold Hansen's Grocery in 1966, and moved to Bloomington. Rose worked for Sears Surplus, and in 1978, when she and Bill retired, they moved to Longville.
Active in church activities, Rose was well-known for recycling cards for fundraising on behalf of her church. She also loved to quilt.
Rose is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; a brother, Jaynard Johnson; a sister, Selma Berg; and a half-sister, Bertha Barkley.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Bonnie Hansen of Longville; daughter and son-in-law, Lois Hansen and George McCorkle of Los Luna, N.M.; grandson, Bill (Laura) Hansen and great-granddaughter, Longville; granddaughter, Stacey (Kevin) Boeckenstedt, Edina; and grandson, Chandler (Christine) Payton of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Rose is further survived by her brothers, Sander Johnson of Austin, and Leroy Johnson of Mona, Iowa; half-brothers and sisters, Jim Johnson, Lola Erickson, and Gladys Bruce; and many loving nieces and nephews, whom she mentioned often and fondly.
Rose will be missed by all who knew her.
Services were conducted at Longville Community Church, May 17, at 2 p.m.
Memorials will go to the Longville Community Church Bible Fund.
