Irene Herbert, 81
Irene Herbert, age 81, of Litchfield, passes away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home, Litchfield.
Irene was born Dec. 30, 1919, in her parents farmhouse near Silver Lake, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Pawlak) Lewandowski. She attended country school District 25 near Silver Lake through the eighth grade.
Irene was married to George J. Herbert, Jr. at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Silver Lake, June 17, 1941. Together they farmed in Hutchinson Township for a number of years and moved to Litchfield in 1983.
Irene was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church in Litchfield, St. Philip's Catholic Church Women, Daughters of Isabella, Litchfield Senior Citizens Club, and Senior Citizens Card Club, which she enjoyed very much.
She loved gardening, reading books, bird watching, and baking apple pies and home-made rolls, especially for family and friends.
Irene's embroidery was well known, even the embroidery she continued to do at the nursing home.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George; and son, LeRoy.
Irene is survived by a daughter, Ruth (Chuck) Finch of Litchfield; son, Bob Herbert of Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Carla Finch of St. Cloud, Peter Finch of Minnetonka, and Sarah Finch of Litchfield; sister, Bernice Strauss of Winsted; three brothers, Albin (Leona) Lewandowski of Silver Lake; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, with the Rev. Mark Mallak officiating.
Organist was Marsha Goraczkowski. Ron Ebnet and Crystal Ebnet were song leaders. Musical selections were by the Resurrection Choir.
Pall bearers were Pat Ebert, Jerry Strauss, Kenny Strauss, Dick Roskammer, Roger Johnson, and Mark Lewandowski.
Honorary pall bearers were Ricky Habisch, Terry Habisch, Matt Strauss, Nathan Matthews, Ricky Roskammer, and Ronnie Lewandowski.
Interment was in St. Anastasia Catholic Cemetery, Hutchinson.
