Edwin W. Heuer
Funeral services for Edwin Wilhelm Heuer, age 90 of New Prague, and formerly of Plato and Glencoe, were Saturday, March 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Plato. Edwin died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at his residence.
Edwin was born the son of William and Emma (Stockmann) Heuer on May 10, 1910, in Carver County, Minn.
The Rev. Pfotenhauer baptized him May 22, 1910 at Emanual Lutheran Church, Hamburg; and he was later confirmed at the same church by the Rev. Baumann on April 13, 1924.
Edwin attended Emanuel Lutheran School and public school through the eighth grade.
On May 27, 1934, he was united in marriage to Cora (Miller) at Emanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Baumann.
The couple moved to a farm north of Plato in 1941, and this is where they lived until 1991, when they moved to Glencoe.
In October 2000, Edwin moved in with his son in New Prague, where he lived until his death.
Edwin attended church at St. John's Lutheran, Plato, where he served as a trustee, an elder, and an officer in the Men's Club for 24 years.
Edwin liked to fish, play cards, travel places by car, and sightsee, but he especially loved farming.
At the time of his death, he had reached the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 20 days.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cora; a brother, Herbert, and a sister, Olga Mackenthun.
He is survived by a son, Donald Heuer (wife, Betty) of New Prague; a grandson, Troy Heuer of New Prague; a brother, Walter Heuer (wife, Selda) of Glencoe; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gertrude Heuer of Norwood Young America, Eldora Miller of Plato, Fred and Leona Miller of Plato, and Lester and Marlys Buckentin of Glencoe; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Bruce Laabs officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was William Niebuhr. Congregational hymns were "Rock of Ages" and "Just As I Am." The St. John's choir sang "Muede bin ich, geh zur ruh" and "So nimm denn meine haende." Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Eugene Heuer, Roger Heuer, Scott Lilienthal, Dr. Lester Schutt, John Heinze, Greg Miller, Ronald Miller, and Bruce Panning.
Visitation took place Friday, March 23, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel, Glencoe.
