Ruth M. Holmberg
Ruth M. Holmberg, age 86, of Watertown, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Elim Home, Watertown.
Ruth was born on June 26, 1914, in Buffalo, the daughter of Berner and Hanna Blomquist.
She graduated from Watertown High School in 1933, and was a lifelong resident of Watertown.
In her early years, she worked at the Blomquist Store and Funeral Home. She loved to sing and did solo and duet singing with her sister, Jeanette.
On Nov. 8, 1946, Ruth was married to Henry M. Holmberg at the Evangelical Free Church, Watertown, by the Rev. Ed Schumacher.
After their wedding, Ruth and Henry ran the A and W Drive-In restaurant in Delano, from 1956-1968.
Ruth will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Berner and Hanna Blomquist; a brother, Vernon Blomquist; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Bennyhoff.
Ruth is survived by her husband Henry; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Mary Lou Holmberg of Waconia; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Michael Galassi, of Hurst, Texas, and Barbara and Gerald Olson of Bloomington; grandchildren, Philip and Christina Olson; a sister, Jeanette Bennyhoff of Mound; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 8, 11 a.m., at the Evangelical Free Church, Watertown, with the Revs. John Mulvihill and Paul Kling officiating. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Philip Olson, Gerald Olson, Michael Galassi, Paul Bennyhoff, Tim Bennyhoff, and Art Anderson.
Arrangements were made by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
