Erna Sophia Hoof

Erna Sophia Hoof, age 77, of Glencoe, passed away Thursday Aug. 9, 2001.

Erna was born the daughter of John and Elsie (Templin) Hoof Sept. 14, 1923, in Bergen Township, McLeod County.

She was baptized Oct. 7, 1923, by the Rev. W. G. Rath and was later confirmed March 9, 1937 by the Rev. Nussmann, both at the Frieden's United Church of Christ in Norwood Young America .

Erna attended District 57 country school through the eighth grade. She lived with her parents, helping them with farm work until they moved to Plato and her aunt Rhodella Templin, who also lived with them, passed away.

Erna moved to an apartment in Glencoe, and she resided at the Millie Beneke Manor until Aug. 24 when she entered the Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Erna sang in the church choir and was always willing to help out the Women's Guild. She enjoyed playing cards, doing picture puzzles, and also reading. Erna was a great sports fan who always watched the games on T.V.

Erna entered her eternal rest at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 25 days.

Erna is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Erna Hoof were Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, 11 a.m., at the Frieden's United Church of Christ of Norwood Young America. Officiating was the Rev. Gene Sipprell.

The organist was Carol Heuer, and the congregational hymns were "Amazing Grace," "Abide With Me," and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."

Delmer Hermann, Omer Templin, Dennis Mielke, Hilary Hoof, Ray Dietel, and Lester Schulz served as casket bearers.

Interment was in the Ferguson Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday evening, Aug. 12, 2001, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel, Glencoe.

Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
