Arnold A. Lemke
Funeral services for Arnold Albert Lemke, age 93 of Lester Prairie, were Wednesday, April 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. Arnold died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Arnold was born Feb. 11, 1908, the son of Ferdinand and Bertha (Kirkbusch) Lemke, in Sibley County, Minn. He was baptized March 1, 1908, at the Mountville Church by the Rev. A. Hertwig; and confirmed at the same church April 9, 1922, by the Rev. Mueller.
Arnold attended school and grew up in the Gaylord area.
On March 5, 1933, he was united in marriage to Esther Polzin at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bismark, Minn. The couple moved to Brownton in 1941, and this is where they lived and farmed for many years.
In June 1965, Esther passed away at the age of 52.
Arnold moved to Lester Prairie in 1972, and this is where he met Lillian Zuehl. Arnold and Lillian were united in marriage Jan. 5, 1980, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie.
Arnold enjoyed playing cards, listening to Old Time music, and attending senior citizen events.
At the time of his death, Arnold had reached the age of 93 years, one month, and 20 days.
In addition to his first wife, Esther, Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Arlo Lemke; grandchildren, Daniel Lemke and Jacqueline Pulkrabek, and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife Lillian; children, Howard Lemke (Phyllis) of Plato, and Eldora Pulkrabek (Jack) of Glencoe; a daughter-in-law, Marje Lemke of Hutchinson; step-children: Leonard Zuehl (Joan) of New Hope, Elaine Briesemeister (Vernon) of Lester Prairie, Carolyn Fasching (Virgil) of Tonka Bay, Marilyn Engel of Peewaukee, Wis., and Mary Ann Teubert (John) of Lester Prairie; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 29 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Arnold is further survived by brothers and sisters, Margaret Hoppenstedt of Gaylord, Lucy Kratz of Minneapolis, Meta Frauendienst of Glencoe, and Emil Lemke (Irene) of St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Frieda Scharmer of Brownton; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Polzin of Glencoe.
The Rev. Grant Bode officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral services. The organist was Jane Holasek. Congregational hymns were "Just As I Am," "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art." Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Brownton.
Serving as casket bearers were Gregg Lemke, Robert Lemke, Ryan Lemke, Jamie Lemke, Kevin Pulkrabek, and Kurt Pulkrabek.
Visitation took place Tuesday April 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel of Lester Prairie.
