Henry C. Luke
Henry C. Luke, age 93 of Hollywood Township, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Henry was born in Hollywood Township, Carver County, April 1, 1908, the son of Huldrich C. and Anna M. (Birkholz) Luke.
He was born again to be God's own child by the "washing of water in the Word" when he was baptized by the Rev. T. Rolf at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, on May 3, 1908.
He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by the Rev. W. L. Ernst at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township, on March 25, 1923. Henry remained faithful to the promises he made at his confirmation all his life and died a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township.
On June 6, 1940, Henry and Donna Kaneis were married at Donna's parents' home in Watertown Township, Carver County. God blessed their marriage with a son, James.
Donna preceded her husband in death in 1992.
Henry engaged in dairy farming in Hollywood Township for many years.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Cherilyn Luke of Hollywood Township; grandsons, Nathan Luke and Scott Luke, both of Hollywood Township; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Huldrich Luke in 1934, and Anna Luke in 1961; and by two sisters, Ella Heuer and Lorena M. Luke.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 21, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church of Hollywood. The Rev. Ronald L. Mathison officiated, and interment followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Becky Aurich was the organist for the funeral service. "Jesus Christ, My Sure Defense," "Like The Golden Sun Ascending," and "Savior, Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise" were sung as congregational hymns.
Ken Moy, Mylo Noerenberg, Bruce Fillbrandt, Sheldon Ittel, Loren Baumann and Lewis Noerenberg served as the casket bearers.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral home, Winsted, on Friday, April 20, from 4 to 8 p.m.
