Alfred R. Marks
Alfred R. Marks, age 94, of Lester Prairie, passed away Nov. 30, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Alfred was born April 9, 1907, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, the son of Herman and Marie Moenke Marks.
He was born again to be God's own child by the "washing of water in the Word" when he was baptized by the Rev. Buscher at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Bergen Township, May 5, 1907.
He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by the Rev. Walter Baumhoefener at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Bergen Township, March 20, 1921. His confirmation verse was Matthew 10:32-33.
Alfred was joined in holy marriage to Gertrude Hoernemann at Friedens United Church of Christ, Carver County, Oct. 27, 1938.
Alfred lived his entire life on his family's homestead and engaged in farming in Bergen Township for many years.
He was a life-long, faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie and was a former trustee and church treasurer. Alfred also served on the building committee when a new parsonage was constructed.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gertrude; an infant daughter; his parents; a sister, Alma Kruschke; and brothers, Arthur, Marvin, Armin, and William Marks.
Alfred is survived by his children, Myra (Ralph) Anderson of Montevideo, Lyman (Kathy) Marks of Bloomington, and Curtis (Debbie) Marks of Lester Prairie; grandsons, Ross Anderson and Eric Marks; sisters and brothers, Irene Marks of Minneapolis, Clarence Marks of Richfield, Orwin (Doris) Marks of Northfield, and Orvilla Marks of Edina.
He is further survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ottilie Hoernemann of Glencoe, Esther (Harry) Meyer of Gaylord, and Karl (Helma) Hoernemann of Lester Prairie; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Alfred Marks were Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. The Rev. Gerald A. Schwanke officiated and interment followed at the church cemetery.
Friends called at the Church Monday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Mary Mielke was the organist for the service. "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling," "Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow," and "Abide with Me" were sung as congregational hymns.
Roger Behning, John Parpart, Clarence Seemann, Kevin Selchow, Larry Michaletz & Gary Rehmann served as casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
