Jesse Henry Martin
Funeral services for Jesse Henry Martin, 98, of Plato were conducted Friday July 6, from the Friedens United Church of Christ of rural Norwood Young America, with the Rev. Gene Sipprell officiating.
Jesse died on Monday, July 2, 2001, at Glencoe Regional Health Services' long-term care facility.
The organist was Carol Heuer. The congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "Beautiful Savior," "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."
Pallbearers were the grandchildren. The honorary pallbearers were the great-grandchildren. Interment was in the Ferguson Cemetery of rural Norwood Young America.
Jesse was born June 17, 1903, to William and Caroline (Ehrke) Martin in Helen Township of McLeod County. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed on April 1, 1917, at Friedens United Church of Christ by the Rev. Rath. He attended school in Plato.
On June 17, 1936, Jesse was united in marriage with Mildred E. Lynn at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Plato. The couple made their home on the Martin family farm in Helen Township.
Jesse enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. They also enjoyed traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Caroline Martin; wife, Mildred Martin; grandson, Ronald Roger Martin; great-grandson, Logan Homer Lewin; brothers, William, Lee and Clem Martin; and sisters, Emma, Elsie and Evelyn.
Survivors include his sons, Roger Martin and wife, Jane, of Plato, Homer Martin and wife, Karen of Plato, William Martin and wife, Debra, of Plato; grandchildren, Kimberly Vorlicek and husband, Roy, of Glencoe, Kristin Lewin and husband, Lance, of Plato, Ramona Dobrava and husband, Dick, Kari Hallett and husband, Warrick, of Glencoe, Kelliann Hallett and husband, Lance, of Plato, Lisa Mathwig and husband, Robert, of Hamburg, Justin Martin and wife, Tammy, of Edina, Heather Martin of Plato; great-grandchildren, Dick Dobrava, Derrick Dobrava, Jesse Dobrava, Jacob Dobrava, Melissa Martin, Laine Lewin, Elizabeth Lewin, Chelsey Vorlicek, Dean Hallett, Carson Hallett, Natasha Hallett, Megan Hallett, Michael Hallett, Austin Mathwig; sister-in-law, Hilda Martin; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
