Loretta Louise (Mertz) Mauk

Loretta Louise (Mertz) Mauk, age 86 of Waverly, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Howard Lake.

Loretta was born in Middleville Township March 1, 1915, to Nicholas and Margaret (Bieren) Mertz. She grew up on the farm in Middleville Township and attended North Howard School.

On June 17, 1941, Loretta married C. Stephen Mauk at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Morgan officiating. The couple made their home on the farm in Middleville Township, where they stayed and raised their family.

Loretta enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and most importantly, her family: children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

At the time of her death, Loretta had reached the age of 86 years, one month, and three days.

She is survived by her children: Eldon Mauk, Louella (Lynn) Jenkins, Harvey (Linda) Mauk, Lester (Rita) Mauk, Eileen Potter, and Teri (Bob) Thurber; 15 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Doris is further survived by a brother, Tom Mertz; and a sister, Emma Bibeau; several nieces and nephews; and special loved ones, Jane Mauk and Diane Mauk.

She is preceded in death by her husband Steve; her parents; a daughter, Evelyn; three infant granddaughters; brothers, Herman, Albert, Emil, Edward, and Andrew; and sisters, Mary and Elizabeth.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 7, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Robert Wiley officiating. Music was by Therese Borrell and John Mauk. Interment was at St. Mary's Church Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Dean Jenkins, Trevor Jenkins, Devon Mauk, Jeff Mauk, Steven Potter, Del Jenkins, Daniel Mauk, Harlan Mauk, Paul Mauk, and Charles Thurber

Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc., Cokato and Howard Lake.
