James Gordon McNeill
James Gordon McNeill, age 80 of Austin, Minn., and formerly of Howard Lake, died Saturday, April 21, 2001.
James was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Bonilla, S. D., to Fenton and Lola (O'Brien) McNeill. In 1938, his family moved to Howard Lake.
In 1942, James married Adeline Schultz. To this union, three children were born: Keith, Judy, and Robert.
Adeline passed away in 1988 from cancer.
James served his country from 1942-1945 in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic. Upon discharge from the Army, James continued this trade, owning and operating a business in Howard Lake for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Howard Lake Fire Department for over 20 years.
In 1991, James married Dorothy Horn in Rapid City, S.D. They lived there until moving to Austin in December 2000.
At the time of his death, James had reached the age of 80 years, seven months, and 21 days.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; son, Keith (Diane) McNeill of LaCrosse, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Peggy of Ashby, Minn.; five grandsons: Sean (Kari), Cullen, Derrick, Daryll, and Derrod; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Erynn; one brother, John of McGregor; two stepsons, Doug (Mary) Horn of Wolsey, S.D., and Rick (Colleen) of Austin; step-grandchildren, Patrick and Timothy Horn, Emily, Isbell and Deanna Parker and Lisa Horn.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adeline; a daughter, Judy; and a son, Robert; grandson, Darrin; three sisters, Lucille, Irene, and Marjorie; and three brothers, Austin, William, and Murray.
Funeral services took place Wednesday, April 25, 2 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating. Music was provided by Grant Judd. Interment followed at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Ed Evenson, Darrod McNeill, Derrick McNeill, Rick Horn, Daryll McNeill, and Sean McNeill.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato and Howard Lake.
