Alice Mary Menden
Alice Menden, age 85, of Norwood Young America, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2001.
Alice Mary (Ploumen) Menden was born the daughter of John and Constance (Lee) Ploumen Dec. 27, 1915, in Minneapolis. She attended and graduated from Shakopee High School.
Alice was united in marriage with Herbert Menden at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shakopee, Jan. 16, 1936.
She lived in Shakopee and Norwood all of her live. Alice was a member of the Church of Ascension in Norwood Young America.
She loved to play cards, and it was very seldom that she didn't have a deck of cards in her hands. She also enjoyed bowling, sewing, canning, and crocheting.
Alice cherished the time that she spent with her family and friends. She entered her eternal rest at the age of 85 years, eight months, and four days.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; grandchild, Derald; three brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Richard) Vidlund of Fridley, Betty (Lawrence) Miller of New. Brighton, James (Doris) Menden of Winsted, Joy (Mike) Holloran of Brooklyn Park, Judy (Larry) Pelton of Milaca, and Marsha (Bill) Dingwall of Glencoe; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her sister, Ruth Poumen of Grantsburg, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Mabel Ploumen of Cannon Falls, Bertha Menden of Shakopee, Elsie Mended of Shakopee, Betty Mended of Shakopee; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 4, 4 p.m., at the Church of Ascension in Norwood Young America. The Rev. Paul Ardolf officiated.
Marilee Widmer was the organist, and the congressional hymns were "Precious Lord," "On Eagle's Wings," and "How Great Thou Art."
The soloist was Lawrence Biermann who sang "The King Is Coming" and "In the Garden."
Ronald Vidlund, Mike Huepenbecker, Kevin Menden, Scott Pelton, Monya Dingwall, and Jody Schmeltzer served as casketbearers.
Visitation was Monday evening, Sept. 3, at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
Interment was in the Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Norwood Young America.
