Earl Owen Ormseth
Earl O. Ormseth, age 79, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes.
Earl Owen Ormseth was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Farwell, Minn. to Eddie and Marie Engebretson Ormseth. He grew up and attended grade school in the Farwell and Kensington, Minn. area.
Earl graduated from Alexandria High School in 1939.
After high school, he entered the Army, in which he served during WWII.
Earl married Mildred Haberer May 5, 1946 in Alexandria - a marriage that would last more than 40 years.
Earl worked for Schwartz Manufacturing as a salesman. This job would allow him to live in Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Moorhead, Hutchinson, Lester Prairie, and Bloomington.
Earl retired in 1986 after 31 years of service to Schwartz Manufacturing.
Mildred died in 1987, and Earl moved back to Detroit Lakes that same year.
He will be remembered for is spirit and determination throughout his life, particularly in the last couple of years as he fought with health issues.
Earl was a longstanding member of both the Trinity and First Lutheran Churches in Detroit Lakes.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; parents, Eddie and Marie Engebretson Ormseth; and a brother, Harold Ormseth.
He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Robert (Cindy) Ormseth of Tega Caye, S.C., Thomas (Kathy) Ormseth of Cupertino, Calif., William (Deb) Ormseth of Detroit Lakes, and Mary (Duane) Bergh of Eagan; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Mae Toft of Alexandria.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services for Earl were Saturday, Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. The Rev. David Peterson officiated at the service. Burial took place at the Kincaid Cemetery, Alexandria.
Holly Heisserer was organist for the service, and Kim Schnitzer served as soloist.
Bob Ormseth, Tom Ormseth, Bill Ormseth, Duane Bergh, Ryan Ormseth, Kevin Bergh, Lee Toft, and Tom Carvell served as casketbearers.
