Mabel "Mae" Marie PetersenMabel "Mae" Marie Petersen, age 96 of Annandale, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the Annandale Care Center. Mabel was born Nov. 7, 1904, in Freedhem, Minn. to Alfred and Anna (Malm) Swanson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Freedhem Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mae's parents died when she was very young. Mae, along with her brothers and sisters, were raised by her uncles Oscar and August Swanson. Mae attended School District 89 in Freedhem. She married Philip Peterson in 1933, in Little Falls. They lived first in Freedhem, and then, in 1946, they moved to Albion Center and purchased the local creamery, from which they retired in 1966. Philip and Mae enjoyed 63 years of marriage while raising two sons. A faithful member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Mabel taught Sunday school, Bible school, was involved in the women's group and answered the call to help in any way that she could. The most important thing in Mae's life was her family. At the time of her death, Mae had reached the age of 96 years, four months, and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip; her parents; the uncles that raised her, Oscar and August; brothers, Edwin and David; and sisters, Gertrude Hedblom, Ruby McLaughlin, and Min Gustafson. Mae is survived by her sons, Jim (Marilyn) Petersen of Bloomington, and Paul (Evelyn) Petersen of Walbridge, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Nicole) Petersen of Richfield, Heather Riippa of Richfield, Dan Petersen of Syracuse, N.Y., and Patsy Ferguson of Toledo, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Travis Ferguson, Tyler Petersen, Holden Riippa, Benjamin Riippa, and Spencer Petersen. Funeral services were Wednesday, March 21, 1 p.m., at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leatrice Teigen officiating. Music was by Genevieve Larson, Paul Petersen, and Philip Benson. Interment followed at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Dan Petersen, Mike Riippa, Jim Talbott, Jeff Petersen, Willis Swanson, and Carl Carlson. Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc., Cokato and Howard Lake. |
