Frieda Bertha Rolf
Funeral services for Frieda Bertha Rolf, age 93 of Lester Prairie, were Monday, March 19, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. Frieda died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Glencoe Health Services Long Term Care Unit.
Frieda was born Feb. 18, 1908, in Winsted Township, the daughter of August and Meta (Schuette) Rolf. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie.
Frieda attended the Lester Prairie Public School; and also took a course at the University of Minnesota to become a licensed practical nurse.
She lived and worked her entire life in the Lester Prairie area, and was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
For enjoyment, Frieda liked catching the first fish, the second fish, and the third fish, etc.
She was most famous for her knitting. Products of her knitting needles have gone far beyond the boundaries of Lester Prairie, and even the United States.
At the time of her death, Frieda had reached the age of 93 years, 27 days. She is preceded in death by four brothers and sisters: Fred Rolf, William Rolf, Louise Moehke, Rosella Rolf, Harold Rolf, and Howard Rolf.
Survivors include two brothers and one sister, Irene Schmalz of Lester Prairie, Benjamin Rolf (wife, Louise) of Watertown, and Gilbert Rolf (wife, Evelyn) of Lester Prairie; a sister-in-law, Agnes Rolf of Hutchinson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Grant Bode officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Jane Holasek. Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "A Mighty Fortress," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Ruth Conoryea sang a solo, "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Eloise Schmalz. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Rollie Rolf, Arduin Rolf, David Rolf, Tim Rolf, Louis Rolf, and Wesley Schmidt.
Visitation was Sunday, March 18, at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie.
