Benjamin M. (Ben) Rolf
Benjamin M. (Ben) Rolf, 85, of Watertown, and formerly of Lester Prairie and Glencoe, died Friday, June 8, 2001 at Elim Meadows, Watertown.
He was born May 18, 1916 in Lester Prairie, the son of August and Meta (Schuette) Rolf. Ben was baptized in June, 1916, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie, by the Rev. Grewe and confirmed at the same church by the Rev. Spliess.
Ben married Jenella Adams on June 3, 1940. Jenella passed away Feb. 12, 1987.
During his younger years, Ben worked at a gas station in Lester Prairie before he, Janella, and their family moved to the family farm by Lester Prairie. He then purchased and ran the blacksmith shop in Lester Prairie.
After several years, they bought a farm near Glencoe, where Ben established a blacksmith shop. They later moved to a larger farm and Ben worked for Lemke's Welding, Glencoe.
Ben and Jenella sold their farm in 1964 and moved to Glencoe, where he worked for Green Giant at different times.
After retirement and after Jenella passed away, Ben did volunteer work at Camp Friendship in Annandale.
On July 23, 1988, Ben married Louise Sanow Bednar. After they were married, they did a lot of volunteer work together for the church, such as sewing quilts, and continued volunteering at Camp Friendship.
Ben also worked part-time for Sti Plastics, and made windmills and other lawn ornaments. In addition, Ben helped Louise with her upholstery business as well.
Ben and Louise enjoyed many trips together, and enjoyed spending time with their families.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Jenella; parents, August and Meta Rolf; brothers, Fred, William, Howard, and Herald Rolf; and sisters, Louise Moenke, Frieda Rolf, and Rosella Rolf.
Ben is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Herman Miller of Brownton and Ruth Ann and Bob Exsted of Deerwood; son, David Rolf of Glencoe; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by his step children and spouses, Roger and Patricia Bednar of Nisswa, Shirley Bren of Spring Park, Joseph and Judy Bednar of St. Bonifacius, and LaRae and Harvey Koenen of Clara City; 14 step grandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Schmalz of Lester Prairie; brother and sisters-in-law, Gilbert and Evelyn Rolf of Lester Prairie, and Agnes Rolf of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 12, 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer with the Rev. Peter Meier and the Rev. Jeff Harter officiating.
Interment was at First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Glencoe.
Grandchildren, Kevin Miller, Mark Miller, Nancy Sweely, Lisa Rolf, Beth Rolf, James Exsted, Daniel Exsted, and Steven Exsted served as casketbearers.
Arrangements were made by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
