Vincent Schmitz, 86
Vincent Schmitz was born March 18, 1915 in Dumont, Minn.
to Michael and Frances (McCarthy) Schmitz.
He served his country during World War II. He drove an
ambulance for the 24th Evacuation Hospital Unit. Part of his Army tour was
spent with the “Battle of the Bulge” campaign in Germany.
Vincent married Cecilia Schauff on June 10, 1946.
They made their home in Howard Lake, where he farmed, drove
milk truck, and was the manager of C & H Agriculture until his retirement.
Vincent was a long time member of the Montrose VFW. He
had a passion for horses and loved fishing. A memorable trip was a trip
to Alaska to do some fishing there.
Vincent passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at Waconia Hospital,
having reached the age of 86 years, 8 months and 9 days.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia; children, Mike
(Jean) of Cokato, Terry (Georgi Ann) of Dayton, John (Sharon) of Annandale,
Paul (Agnes) of Howard Lake, Charles (Melanie) of Howard Lake, Jerome (Jane)
of Maple Grove, Francis of Howard Lake, Mary (Eugene) Amborn of Cokato,
George of Howard Lake, Ann (William) Sliney of Chiefland, FL. and Carl of
Cokato.
He is further survived by 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert;
and two grandchildren Chad Schmitz and Teresa Ann Schmitz.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m. at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, Waverly. The Reverend Robert Wiley will officiate
and St. Mary’s Choir will provide the music.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts of memorial are preferred.
