Lila G. Schoenke
Lila G. Schoenke, age 66, of New Germany, passed away Thursday,
Nov. 1, 2001 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Lila DePue was born June 28, 1935, to James and Florence
(Moyse) DePue in Franklin Borough, N.J. She was baptized in July 1935 at
the Franklin Presbyterian Church, Franklin, N.J., and confirmed Oct. 2,
1962, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Henry Weseloh.
On May 27, 1962, she was united in marriage to Franklin
W. Schoenke at St. Mark Lutheran Church by the Rev. Weseloh.
They farmed near New Germany and moved to New Germany in
1999. Beside helping with the farming business, Lila also helped with an
insurance agency and a seed corn business her husband owned.
She was active in her church and LWML of St. Mark Lutheran
Church. She served as LWML president and held other offices with LWML. Lila
also was a member of the Lutheran Aid Association Branch 1337, and held
offices with that group. She also was a member of the Gideon’s International
Auxiliary.
Lila’s hobbies included collecting Beanie Babies and baseball
cards. She collected the baseball cards because her uncle, Russell Van Atta
Sr., played baseball with the New York Yankees during the Babe Ruth era.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother,
William David DePue; brother, James Loren DePue Jr.; grandparents; mother-in-law
and father-in-law, Mathilda and Herbert Schoenke; sister-in-law, Janet Schuette
Stender; brother-in-law, Leroy Krekelberg; as well as aunts and uncles.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin Schoenke; daughters
and sons-in-law, Rebecca Schoenke of New Germany, Deneen Schoenke of Long
Lake, Lori (Steven) Norton of Augusta, Wis., Robin (Lyle) Grossinger of
New Germany; son and daughter-in-law, Matt (Anne) Schoenke of New Germany;
grandchildren, Lacey and Lance Schoenke, Emily and Shyanne Schwarze, Tiffany,
Leslie, Alicia and Jay Dee Motzko, Steven and Michelle Norton, Chelsie Lambrecht,
Justin and Britni Grossinger and Matthew and Haley Schoenke.
She is further survived by sisters and brothers-in-law,
Mary DePue of Franklin, N.J., Deanna DePue of Franklin, N.J., Margaret
DePue Hlavka of Odensburg, N.J., Dale DePue and Henry Wendt of Dingman Ferry,
Pa., Karen DePue and Kenneth Predmore of McAfee, N.J., Florence DePue and
Don Pellington of Ringwood, N.J.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lavilla
and Rueben Schmalz of Lester Prairie, Mary Krekelberg of LeSueur; uncles,
aunts, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lila G. Schoenke were Monday, Nov.
5, from St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, with the Rev. Allen Holtus
officiating.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Chelsie Lambrecht,
Tiffany Motzko, Lance Schoenke, Lacey Schoenke, Emily Schwarze, Leslie Motzko,
Alicia Motzko and Jay Dee Motzko. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren,
Steven Norton, Justin Grossinger and Matthew Schoenke. Interment was in
St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Germany.
The Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia handled arrangements.
