Harold H. Spike obituary, 2/16/2001


Harold H. Spike, age 84 of St. Michael and formerly of
Waverly, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids.
He was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Minneapolis, the son of
Reuben and Hattie (Nieskens) Spike.
As a young man, Harold attended Rural School District 123
in Chatham Township.
On May 3, 1940, Harold and Laura Marquette were joined
in holy marriage at the rectory of St. Francis Church. Their marriage was
blessed with 13 children.
Harold engaged in dairy farming in Marysville Township.
For many years, he also worked on road maintenance for Marysville and Chatham
Township.
He was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waverly,
and belonged to the Church of St. Michael in St. Michael.
Harold is survived by his wife Laura J. Spike of St. Michael;
children: Myron (Clarice) Spike of Isanti, Myrna Hell of Waconia, Irene
(Lee) Fehn of Laporte, Paul Spike of New Brighton, Judy (Ken) Kalway of
Monticello, Jerome (Kathy) Spike of Maple Lake, David (Mary) Spike of Annandale,
Jeanne (Dan) Boeson of Howard Lake, Emily Heins of Howard Lake, Mary (Bob)
Nowak of Montrose, Ramona (Steve) Proctor of Montrose, and Wanda (Steve)
Tussing of Waverly; a son-in-law, Gene Sorenson of Waverly; 53 grandchildren,
43 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He is further survived by two brothers and one sister,
Walter (Kathryn) Spike, and Vernon (Lorraine) Spike, all of Buffalo, and
Elaine Wannebo of Tucson, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Emily Marquette of Buffalo;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan (Ardis) Marquette of Buffalo, Morris
Marquette of Hemet, Calif., and Eleanore Marquette of Buffalo; and other
relatives and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Sorenson,
in 1997; his parents; four brothers; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001,
11:30 a.m., at the Church of St. Michael. The Rev. Leonard Siebenaler was
the celebrant. Interment followed at the St. Michael Cemetery.
A visitation took place Monday Feb. l9, from 4 to 8 p.m.
at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Casket bearers were Myron Lee Spike, Stacy Spike, Jeff
Fehn, Dustin Tussing, Justin Spike, Matt Spike, Jeremy Boeson and Terry
Spike.
Honorary casket bearers were Wade Heins and Lenny Kalway.
The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, served the family.
