Fred H. Stender, age 94 of Norwood Young America, died
Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001.
Fred was born Jan. 6, 1907, at Camden Township, Carver
County, Minn., the son of Fred and Anna (Graunke) Stender. He was baptized
Feb. 24, 1907, by the Rev. J. Kuhn, and confirmed March 20, 1921 at St.
John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America, by the Rev. Martin Abraham.
On Sept. 3, 1941, Fred married Selma A. Boettcher at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Waconia, by the Rev. William Schneider.
After Fred and Selma’s marriage, they farmed. Fred also
worked for Honeywell for 12 years in the maintenance department. He retired
in 1972.
Fred was past president of the Norwood Young America Senior
Citizens group.
He is survived by his wife Selma; daughters and sons-in-law,
Marla and Kenneth Quaas of Watertown, Vergeane and Ronald Groenke of Marco
Island, Fla., Bonnie Pevestorf of New Germany, and RaNaye and Richard Ische
of Waconia; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Adele
Lemke of St. Bonifacius; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Duane Pevestorf;
parents, Fred and Anna Stender; sisters, Magdalena Loehrs, Clara Lenz, Anna
Ernst, and Christine Stender; and brothers, Henry, Andrew, Ruben, Herbert,
Victor, August, and Arthur Stender.
Funeral services were Thursday, March 1, 1:30 p.m., at
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America, with the Revs. David
Winter and Scott Gustafson officiating. Interment was at Mau Memorial Cemetery,
Norwood Young America.
Casket bearers were Fred’s grandsons, Brian, Brad and Brent
Quaas; Greg and Steve Groenke, Kevin, Kyle, and Kurt Pevestorf; and Chris
and Nathan Ische.
Visitation was at the Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia, Wednesday,
Feb. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a chapel service at 8 p.m.; and for one
hour at the church prior to the service on Thursday.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
