Emma H. Stender
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 13, for Emma H. Stender,
age 93 of Norwood Young America, who died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Ridgeview
Medical Center, Waconia.
Emma was born Aug. 3, 1907, at Carver County, Minn., the
daughter of Herman J. and Katherina (Schneewind) Schmidt. She was baptized
Aug. 25, 1907, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America by the
Rev. August Baumhoefener; and confirmed March 20, 1921, at the same church
by the Rev. M. F. Abraham.
On June 2, 1937, Emma married Edwin C. F. Stender at St.
John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young America, by the Rev. W. P. Kramer.
Emma was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church
of Norwood Young America. Her family was a very important part of her life
as she enjoyed them very much. She also loved her farm and enjoyed working
in her garden and flower beds.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband Edwin; a son-in-law,
Harry Norman; her parents, Herman and Katherina Schmidt; brothers, Reinhold
Schmidt and Fred Schmidt; sisters, Hulda Leistiko and Anna Parpart; and
her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gottlieb and Minnie Stender.
She is survived by her children and spouses: Lyla Norman
of Waconia; John and Annette Stender, Willard and Kathryn Stender, and Earl
Stender, all of Norwood Young America; Kathleen and Frank Adamich of Coon
Rapids; and Marie and David Wickenhauser of Norwood Young America.
Emma is further survived by her grandchildren: Kenneth
Norman, Brenda Norman, Donna and Kevin Noerenberg, Richard Norman, Daniel,
Anthony, Timothy, Andrew and Jenna Stender, Gary and Lisa Adamich, Renee
and Tom Fritz, Nancy Wickenhauser, and Sarah and Billy Simons; great-grandchildren,
Melissa, Christopher, Corey, Samantha, Emily, Nathan, Andrew and Shelby;
sisters-in-law, Helen Schmidt of Waconia, Viola Stender of New Germany,
Rosella Leistiko of Watertown, and Verdilla Stender of Montevideo; nieces,
nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The Revs. David Winter and Scott Gustafson officiated at
the 2 p.m. funeral services at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norwood Young
America. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Norwood Young America.
Casket bearers were Nancy Wickenhauser, Kenneth Norman,
Anthony Stender, Gary Adamich, Katherine Baumann, and Lesley Parpart.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
