Norbert George Stifter
Norbert George Stifter, age 73, of rural Howard Lake, died
Wednesday evening, July 18, 2001, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
He was born on his family homestead in Victor Township,
Wright County, August 5, 1927, the son of Louis and Amanda Sherman Stifter.
Norbert honorably served his Country in the United States
Army Military Police.
Norbert Stifter and Mae Roufs were joined in holy marriage
at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted, Aug. 22, 1959. God blessed their
marriage with six children.
Norbert engaged in dairy farming in Victor Township for
many years, and was a longtime member of the American Jersey Cattle Club.
He also was a charter member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association,
Wright County.
Norbert was a faithful lifetime member of Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, Winsted. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #407,
and to the Catholic Order of Foresters Holy Trinity Court #1054.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and
Amanda Stifter; brothers and sisters, Louis Stifter, Sister Alethea Stifer,
OSF, George Stifter, Sister Lydie Stifter, LSP, and Ernest Stifter; father-in-law
and mother-in-law, George and Agnes Roufs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,
Tony Loebertmann, Ince Suilmann, L. Mark Littfin, Monica Stifter, Cletus
Roufs, and Helen C. Roufs.
Norbert’s survivors include his wife, Mae Stifter; children,
Matthew N. (Cyndi) Stifter of Howard Lake, Thomas G. (Julie) Stifter of
New Germany, David L. (Lisa) Stifter of Annandale, Daniel J. (Karen) Stifter
of Aitkin, Louis P. (Lisa) Stifter of Stewart, and Sarah A. Stifter of Howard
Lake; grandchildren, Eric, Amanda, and Rick Stifter; Jacob and Rachel Stifter;
Nick and Kelli Stifter; and Levi and Jennifer Stifter; a brother, Clarence
(Marge) Stifter of Morris Plains, N.J.; sisters, Louise Loebertmann of Howard
Lake, Rosina Suilmann of Wabasha, and Sister Louis Stifter, CSC of South
Bend, Ind.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doloris Roufs, Marietta
Littfin, Iona (Martin) Franci , Sister Elizabeth Roufs, OSB, and Frank (Terry)
Roufs; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert Stifter
was conducted Saturday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf and the Rev. Martin F. Rath, OSB,
served as Concelebrants.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, Friday,
July 20, from 4 to 9 p.m.
A Foresters Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m., a parish prayer
service was conducted at 7:30 p.m., and an American Legion ritual took place
at 8 p.m. Friday evening, July 20.
Organist for the Mass was Carrie Knott.
Ken Loebertmann, Mike Loebertmann, Charles Littfin, Jacob
Stifter, Eric Stifter, and Rick Stifter served as casketbearers.
Norbert’s children, Matthew N. Stifter, Thomas G. Stifter,
David L. Stifter, Daniel J. Stifter, Louis P. Stifter, and Sarah A. Stifter
were honorary casketbearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, served the family.
