Marvin L. Vogelpohl
Marvin L. Vogelpohl, age 68, of Dassel, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Marvin Leo Vogelpohl was born June 12, 1933 in Manannah Township, near Eden Valley. He was the son of Ervin and Lena (Blomker) Vogelpohl. Marvin grew up on a family farm near Eden Valley, where he attended school at District 189.
He was baptized at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Eden Valley. He served his country in the US Army for three years, and was discharged in 1961.
Marvin was married to Marcella May Johnson July 31, 1956 in Hampton, Va. They were married 45 years.
In 1957, they moved to Richmond, where Marvin worked for area farmers, the Paynesville Elevator, and B.F. Roofing. From 1974 to 1994, he worked at the Mid-Aim Dairyman Company in Winsted. In 1978, they moved to Dassel. Marvin farmed many years for Neal Korhenon near French Lake. He was a member of the teamsters union.
Marvin was a person who loved farming, and he was a hard worker. After a hard days work, he would often come home and rest on he front porch and relax for hours. He loved his children and grandchildren very much, and enjoyed having them around.
He liked to tell stories of his childhood growing up on the farm, and Army stories, as well. He will be missed very much by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon; sister, Vera, and sister-in-law, Vergeane.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella of Dassel; children, Lloyd (Donna) Vogelpohl of Cokato, Lena (Robert) Block of Paynesville, Arthur (Jodi) Vogelpohl of Dassel, Allen (Kandy) Vogelpohl of Dassel, Eva (Robert) Braness of Dassel, Elaine Vogelpohl of Braham, Lora Vogelpohl of Kimball; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandson; brothers, Vincent of New London, James (Joyce) of Lake Elmo; sisters, Marie Vogelpohl of Roscoe, Betty Boehl of Paynesville; brothers-in-law, James Myllykangas of Kimball, Arthur Johnson of Minneapolis, Frank Johnson of St. Cloud; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Neadue of Edward, Wash. and Sara Vogelpohl of Paynesville.
A memorial service was Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, 1:30 p.m., at the Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. The Rev. Ric Koehn officiated the service. Visitation was conducted one hour prior to the service.
Internment was in the Eden Lake Cemetery, rural Eden Valley.
Arrangements were made by the Johnson Funeral Home of Paynesville.
