Mary Ann Vorlicek
Funeral services for Mary Ann Vorlicek, 86, of Silver Lake were held on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating.
Mrs. Vorlicek died on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Organist was Val Shamla, and the Holy Family Choir sang "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," "On This Day O Beautiful Mother," "The Strife Is O'er" and "When We Say Good Morning Up There." Soloist was Trenton Vorlicek.
Pallbearers were Ron Pulkrabek, Bob Schuette, Dean Totushek, Scott Totushek, Earl Ehrke and Clarence Vorlicek. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment was in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Mary Ann Urban was born on July 22, 1915, in Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County, to Frank and Agnes (Anderle) Urban. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1933 as the class salutatorian. She attended one year of teacher's training.
She married Howard Vorlicek at the St. Joseph parsonage in Silver Lake on Oct. 28, 1941.
Mrs. Vorlicek was a teacher in District 80 and District 69 as well as the Komensky School. She also was a homemaker, farm wife and a cook at the Glencoe Area Health Center.
Mrs. Vorlicek was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and its CCW and a member of the Western Fraternal Lodge (ZCBJ).
She enjoyed collecting recipes, gardening, reading, baking, nature, embroidering and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Magdelan (Taffy) Kostecka of Garrison, Kathleen Vollmer of Minneapolis, Franklin (Diane) Vorlicek of Blooming Prairie and Roy (Kim) Vorlicek of Glencoe; grandchildren, Kim (Troy) Johnson, Craig and Troy Vollmer, Heidi (Alan) Jolley, Aune (Richard) Allen, Jason, Trenton and Chelsey Vorlicek; great-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler and Jordan Johnson, Cody and Matthew Jolley, Gabriel, Josh, Stephanie and Nicole Allen and Madeline Vorlicek; brother, Dan Totushek; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Urban.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Louis Totushek; husband, Howard; brother, Rudolph Urban; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Totushek.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled funeral arrangements.
