Florian L. Yurek
Florian L. Yurek, age 64, of Hale Township, McLeod County, passed away
unexpectedly of a heart attack Aug. 20, 2001, at Glencoe Regional Health
Care Services .
Florian was born Aug. 30, 1936, on the Yurek farm, in Hale Township,
north of Silver Lake, to Louis and Joanne (Pawlak) Yurek.
He went to District 25 County School, and then went on the St. Adalbert’s
Catholic School, where he graduated from the eighth grade.
Florian married Theresa Pawlicki at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church, Silver
Lake, April 20, 1965. He and Theresa made their home on their farm in Hale
Township, where they lived out the rest of their lives.
Besides farming, Florian hauled milk for Stockholm Creamery, helped build
houses and barns for Earl Zrust Construction, and worked at Pure Milk in
Winsted making cheese.
He also worked in Winsted at Millerbernd’s pressing steel.
In addition, Florian laid sod, worked for the Green Giant Corporation
as a factory worker, picked sweet corn, and worked many other odd jobs.
Until his illness, he worked as a custodian for the Silver Lake Liquor
Store.
Florian enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, in his later years.
In his younger years, he liked to go up north to hunt deer and look at the
wild life.
He liked wood crafts, such as making lawn ornaments, and enjoyed painting
buildings and playing the Concertina.
Florian would not miss Monday night wrestling, and “The Price is
Right” on weekday mornings. He also liked gardening and mowing the
grass, and enjoyed speaking Polish.
He loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. When his children
were small, he would take them to parades, fishing, and ice fishing.
Florian enjoyed farming and working in the fields with his son Michael.
With his grandchildren, he would always take time to play with them. He
would fix their bicycles and toys when broken, and was a special buddy to
his grandson, Steven.
This past spring, he became a member of Gopher Campfire. Florian was
also a member of Holy Family Church, Silver Lake.
Florian was an easy going man who liked to tease and joke around with
people. He took life as it came, good or bad.
Florian is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Joanna Yurek;
wife, Theresa; and sister-in-law, Jane Yurek.
He is survived by his son, Michael Yurek and wife, Amy, and daughter,
Mary Juncewski and husband, Alan, all of Silver Lake; brother and sisters,
Edward Yurek of Silver Lake and Eleanor Kucera and husband, Leonard of rural
Silver Lake; brother-in-law, Donald Pawlicki and wife Eleanor of Glencoe;
four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were Aug. 23, 2001, at Holy Family Catholic Church,
with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating.
The organist was Alice Nowak, with special music provided by Church Thiel.
“Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles Wings,” and “How
Great Thou Art” were sung as hymns. “The Isabella Waltz”
was played by Chuck Thiel.
A special Polish song was sung by Alice Nowak.
Biblical scriptures were read by Florian’s nephew, Gerald Kucera.
Ken Kucera, Derek Kucera, Wade Kucera, Greg Davidson, Brent Kucera, and
Steve Kucera served as pall bearers.
Interment took place at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Arrangements were made by Maresh Funeral Home, Silver Lake.
