Helen H. Zak
Helen H. Zak, age 94, of Lester Prairie, and formerly of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 with her daughter, Arlene, by her side, squeezing her hand at the time of her passing.
Helen was born Jan. 23, 1907 to William and Frances (Obolesky) Hoodicheck in Hutchinson Township, McLeod County. She spent her youth on the farm and attended Komensky Country School.
Helen was united in marriage to Henry Zak April 4, 1936 in Glencoe. They were blessed with a daughter.
Helen was a faithful member of Faith Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women.
She helped Henry with the fieldwork, had a big garden, and enjoyed flowers. She loved to bake kolaches and anytime someone stopped over, she always made sure that they had something to eat.
Helen's hobbies included playing cards, embroidering, crocheting, and fishing with her husband. She loved visiting with her family and going out west to look at the mountains.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; sisters, Alice Ardolf and Mary Spaeth; and brothers, William, Alfred, and Jack.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Duane) Konerza; grandchildren, Lori (Jim) DeGroot, Kay (Garrett) Bachert; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday. Nov. 24, 1 p.m., at Faith Presbyterian Church, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Sherri Sandoz officiating.
Organist was Barb Wawrzyniak, and soloist was Jackie Konerza.
Clarence Hoodichek, Bob Hoodichek, Don Hoodichek, Garrett Bachert, Archie Kucera, Harvey Karg, Brian DeGroot, and Mike DeGroot served as casketbearers.
Interment was at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County.
Arrangement were made by Maresh Funeral Home, Silver Lake.
